A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Students living on campus and those that were solely distance learning were calculated as a percentage of FTE. Data was gathered based on numbers of students that live on campus and for students who are solely distance learners. Commuter students are harder to track as their parking permits are valid for two years making it harder to determine total numbers, so we assume those are coming to campus with a single occupancy vehicle.

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
11 employees live on campus.
304 of the 1699 employee parking permits are designated LEED. These LEED permits cost less than regular parking permits to incentivize the use of vehicles with lower emissions and higher fuel efficiency. We do not know how many of these are zero-emissions vehicles.
13 have motorcycle-only permits.
While anecdotally we know of some employees that carpool or take more sustainable forms of transportation, we do not have clear tracking on this (with the exception of the 13 motorcycle only permits). We also have a number of employees that telecommute at least part of the time, but these numbers are not currently tracked. Therefore, even though we know there are a higher percentage of sustainable commuting, we assume in this calculation that nearly all employees with a parking pass are driving alone to campus. Florida Gulf Coast University is located in Lee County, Florida, a suburban community wherein single occupancy vehicle travel is the most widely used form of transportation.
