Research Inventory
Inventory of the institution’s sustainability research:
A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the research inventory:
To inventory the amount of faculty members and departments engaged with or conducting sustainability research, we used a non-probability, purposive sampling method. STARS definition of SUstainability and the UNSDGs informed what was selected for inclusion. We sampled research from the following units: 1) Research funded by the Office of Research & Graduate Studies. 2) Research showcased in teh annual Eagle X/Cellebration of Excellence event. 3) Faculty Research interests listed under the research database (https://www.fgcu.edu/sisr/researchdatabase) 4) Faculty listed with published materials online searchable through teh FGCU Library website. The Environmental Health & Safety Department removed duplicate faculty members engaged in research through multiple offices to avoid double counting when calculating the amount of faculty members engaged with or conducting sustainability research out of the total amount of faculty engaging with or conducting any type of research. The research inventoried from the three aforementioned methods enabled us to report on the total number of faculty engaged in sustainability research and the total number of departments with a faculty member conducting sustainability research. While we endeavored to be as thorough as possible, we realize that this does not include all sustainability-related scholarship and research performed at Florida Gulf Coast University. There is likely much more that we have not uncovered.
