Documentation

A copy of the institution’s inventory of its sustainability course offerings and descriptions:
Do the figures reported above cover one, two, or three academic years?:
One

A brief description of the methodology used to complete the course inventory :
The FGCU Office of the Registrar maintains a Sustainability Component (SUSC) course attribute. Deans, department chairs, program leaders, and faculty members across the institution add or omit courses from the inventory as needed. Courses with sustainability content are designated in the course catalog with a SUSC attribute which enables students to choose courses as well as enables us to track the courses. Each section of each course was counted separately.

Faculty are guided on incorporating sustainability into their classes using the UN Sustainable Development Goals, The Earth Charter, and through professional development in our Integrating Sustainability Across the Curriculum (ISAC) Academy. Faculty interested in adding or revising their course content to include sustainability are able to attend the FGCU Integrating Sustainability Across the Curriculum (ISAC) Academy which provides the time, space, and resources for faculty at all career stages across the university to engage in inter- and cross-disciplinary discussions for sustainability curriculum development.

Schedule searches may be completed by term on this website: https://gulfline.fgcu.edu/pls/fgpo/szkschd.p_showform. Note: There is no separate indicator for sustainability inclusive and sustainability focused classes, therefore class titles and descriptions were used to discern between inclusive and focused.

In addition to the SUSC attribute, courses were also self-reported and the master list of courses were reviewed to pick up additional courses that do not have the SUSC attribute but were clearly sustainability-focused or sustainability-inclusive.

How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each offering or section of a course was counted as an individual course

Data source(s) and notes about the submission:
Courses were excluded if there were 4 or fewer students in the class; most special topics courses; most art performance, technique, or composition; as well as most internships, clinicals, practicums. Exceptions were made if the course had the Sustainability Component (SUSC) attribute. Where the SUSC attribute was present in these situations, the courses were included in both the sustainability course offerings and the count of total courses.
