A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

The environmental studies major is designed to prepare students for the rapidly expanding and dynamic possibilities for jobs related to the critical environmental issues facing our planet.

Through integrated interdisciplinary learning experiences based in the classroom, in the laboratory, in the field, and off-campus, students will meet science goals shared by those in the natural sciences and will develop skills and experience in:

-The ability to gather, analyze, and synthesize information.
-The process of science, its application to developing public
policy, and the ethical issues of this application.
-Effective communication and problem solving in professional
settings and situations requiring collaborative teamwork.
-A systems perspective on environmental issues that includes
the historical, cultural, economic, and ecological considerations.
-The ecosystems of Southwest Florida and the ability to
apply this local knowledge to other regions of the globe.
-The application of the concept of sustainability.

Environmental Engineering (B.S.Env.E.)

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

Environmental Engineering involves the application of engineering principles to the design and development of systems, processes, and tools needed for the protection of the environment, human health, and natural ecosystems in order to foster sustainable development. The Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering (B.S.Env.E.) emphasizes municipal, natural, and industrial environments with focus on the core competency areas of water and wastewater treatment, water resources engineering, solid and hazardous waste management, and air and water quality control. This program employs a team-based interdisciplinary learning philosophy. This approach provides students with the critical thinking skills required for effective and innovative engineering practice.

The mission of the B.S.Env.E. degree program is to:

-Deliver graduates broadly educated in engineering approaches to problem solving for a sustainable future for South Florida and beyond
-Prepare leaders for the Environmental Engineering professions, professional licensure and practice, graduate and professional degrees and lifelong learning
-Provide an interdisciplinary, entrepreneurial and service oriented learning environment that values diversity, ethical practice, professionalism, and collaborative approaches to achieve sustainability across environmental engineering sub-disciplines

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (3rd program):

The B.A. in Integrated Studies combines courses across programs in order to produce deep learning and a better understanding of the interrelationships between academic subjects. Sustainability and civic engagement are core tenants of the Integrated Studies B.A.. The program provides flexibility in meeting individual student interests and learning goals and blends existing and new experiences, information, and perspectives into the learners’ total understanding of their world.
