Title or keywords related to the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Liquid ozone being used to replace harsh chemical cleaners in residence halls.
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
Liquid ozone can be produced economically for use as a cleaner and disinfectant. FGCU's residence halls now use small liquid ozone producing machines which use only water and electricity to produce a safe alternative to chemicals typically used for sanitization. This liquid ozone cleaner breaks down to its individual constituents (Water and Oxygen) after only a few hours, eliminating the need for chemical cleaners and minimizing the risks to custodial workers
A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
The liquid ozone machines are small enough to fit within a janitorial closet and preclude the need to purchase sanitization and cleaning solutions from a third party, reducing the consumption of resources and the financial burden of continual purchase of cleaning products. Risks of inhalation and of skin exposure in custodial workers is also lessened as a result of this implementation.
