Description of the methodology and data source(s) used to identify the region served and its demographics:

Australian is a very multi-cultural country (as per the Australian Bureau of Statistics with regards to country of birth, https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/people/population/australias-population-country-birth/jun-2023, nearly every country from around the world was represented in Australia's population), but most Australian universities do not collect data on racial/ethnic backgrounds outside of Australian indigenous groups. The dominant group is therefore listed as "Non-indigenous". This is a broad grouping that conflates many ethnic/racial backgrounds. Flinders does capture data on country-of-birth and citizenship, but these are not sufficient for determining marginalised groups.

Flinders University is located in the state of South Australia (SA) and primarily serves SA students. Population data for SA was obtained from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (most recent census):

https://www.abs.gov.au/statistics/people/aboriginal-and-torres-strait-islander-peoples/estimates-aboriginal-and-torres-strait-islander-australians/30-june-2021

All student data is for the full 2023 year and excludes international students, as none of these would qualify as Australian indigenous. Students choosing not to reveal their indigenous status are treated as non-indigenous for this purpose.
