A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation (including how multiple dimensions of sustainability are addressed):

Fleming College offers three opportunities for students to become oriented to our campuses and College life. These include; Welcome Days - in 2018, 859 students attended over 3 days; Orientation: which all new students can attend and approximately 75% of expected registered students or approx. 2385+ usually attend, and Open Houses in the Spring and the Fall. In 2019 there were 1735 attendees for both events at all campuses. The Office of Sustainability is present at each event providing information about sustainability on campus and opportunities for students to get involved either as Student Workers or with our Students for Sustainability clubs.
At each event, including Orientation, the Office of Sustainability hosts a table in a prominent location where students can view or receive a "Sustainability Walking Map" highlighting the sustainability features of the College as well as small post-cards, with highlights of sustainability activities on campus and ways to get involved, cycling trail maps, an inter-campus shuttle schedule, information about our Farmer's Market and more. In 2018, Sustainability was included in an oath taken by all participants in Orientation Ceremonies as follows; As a member of the Fleming Community, please answer, ‘I WILL’ to the following pledge:
• Will you RESPECT the differences among all members of your community?
o I will
• Will you take care of yourself?
o I will
• Will you uphold academic integrity and honesty?
o I will
• Will you ask questions and use the resources available to you through Fleming’s faculty, staff and student leaders?
o I will
• Will you support Fleming’s efforts to build a more sustainable future socially, economically, and environmentally?
o I will
• Will you demonstrate pride in your accomplishments and the accomplishments of your peers?
o I will
Information about Sustainability on campus was included in 4500 Agendas that students receive during Orientation Week. In 2019, this information will be embedded in all Agendas given out to students. At each event, students were also encouraged to apply to become Sustainability Campus Student Workers or take part in Students for Sustainability student groups and were able to ask questions and inquire about Sustainability at Fleming. Indoor events featured a "Sustainability Lives Here" video highlighting sustainability across the curriculum in programs across the College. In addition, Frost Campus offers a Sustainability Tour on Campus and Refreshments where students are introduced to the Butterfly Gardens, Bike Tune-Ups, and a Seed Saving Workshop.
