Does the institution offer at least one immersive, sustainability-focused educational study program that is one week or more in length?:
Yes
A brief description of the sustainability-focused immersive program(s) offered by the institution, including how each program addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability:
Students in Fleming's Ecosystem Management Program spend a semester abroad in the Askari Wilderness Conservation Program, South Africa. The Askari Wilderness Conservation Programme gives volunteers the opportunity to contribute to the management, research, and monitoring activities on Pidwa Wilderness Reserve. The goal is to secure, increase and improve wild habitats. This is an immersive semester-long learning experience for students https://flemingcollege.ca/programs/ecosystem-management-technology.
Fleming is the first College in Canada to offer a Sustainable Building Design and Construction program. The 20-week program, based out of the Haliburton Campus, is an intensive, hands-on experience where approximately 26 students from across Canada design and construct a new sustainable building, showcasing green building technologies and new energy-saving techniques. Each project serves a community in the region. Students have completed projects such as the 4C’s Food Bank & Thrift Store in Haliburton, Kinark Outdoor Centre’s Sustainable Living Centre and Eco Classroom, R.D. Lawrence Place for the Township of Minden Hills, the Madoc Performing Arts Centre, and The Camp Kawartha Environment Centre.
