A brief description of the institution's initiatives to shift individual attitudes and practices in regard to energy efficiency (e.g. outreach and education efforts):
"Power-down" initiatives before long weekends and Christmas break. Students living in residence are provided with information on how to save energy (e.g. unplug appliances, close curtains, switch off lights). Information about energy saving measures is also provided on website.
A brief description of energy use standards and controls employed by the institution (e.g. building temperature standards, occupancy and vacancy sensors):
Building automation system is utilized to regulate temperatures based upon occupancy schedule and 80% of college lighting utilizes occupancy sensors
A brief description of Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting and other energy-efficient lighting strategies employed by the institution:
The technology is Peerless Mino LED - Direct Recessed 37 watt fixture delivering 93 lumens per watt and rated for 50,000 hours of use.
A brief description of passive solar heating, geothermal systems, and related strategies employed by the institution:
The new Kawartha Trade and Technology Centre features passive solar heating. Taking into account the local climate (heating climate), the building features effective insulation, orientation of windows to capture the sun for heating (south facing walls), reduction of windows on north facing wall, window features aimed to keep the heat and and strong summer sun out.
Fleming College's Frost campus has 66 geothermal wells that cover the heating/cooling needs of the Environmental Technology Wing.
A brief description of co-generation employed by the institution, e.g. combined heat and power (CHP):
