Carpentry students built raised beds for the Sutherland campus community garden and Skilled Trades students are building a house within the Kawartha Trades and Technology wing of the main campus that includes green features.

Frost Campus has renewable energy sources including wind, passive solar and geothermal that are highlighted for students, staff and visitors through signage and tours of the "Discovery Wing" of the Frost campus. The Kawartha Trades and Technology Centre has a portable "renewable energy centre" that is used to describe renewable energy applications.

Our Culinary Management and Chef Training Red Seal program focuses on Culinary with A Conscience (cooking and eating locally and sustainably) and sources local food ( including from our Sustainable Agriculture and Aquaculture programs) and serves it through the on-campus dining room (Fulford's Restaurant) raising the awareness of students and the College community alike about the benefits of local food sourcing, food security and sustainably grown food.

The Aboriculture Program and Trees and Shrubs course are two of many programs and courses that utilize the campus grounds to study tree identification.Tree ID Tests are taken right on the grounds with the wide variety of tree species located on site. The Urban Forestry Technician program has included on-site student projects such as an analysis of tree canopy cover at the campus.

Students in our School of Business together with the Office of Sustainability, conducted a modal split survey of students at our main campus resulting in a referendum organized by our Student Advisory Council to increase transit service and rider-ship to the school. The referendum passed in November, 2015. This resulted in a new agreement with the municipal transit service that will provide greatly improved service beginning in Fall, 2016. In response to the modal split survey the Student Advisory Council also included an array of alternative transportation options, along with transit, such as a BikeShare program. Work has been initiated on these for the 2016/17 school year.
The shuttle bus service between our Frost and Sutherland campuses was also a student- led initiative. It has resulted in students choosing to come to the Frost campus as a result of this new transportation option.

In conjunction with the Office of Sustainability, 70 + Students in the School of Business undertook projects to support increased waste reduction and diversion at the College as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility Course. The projects focused largely on raising awareness in the campus community and included initiatives such as Awareness Tables, Posters, Waste Sorting Contests and a "Black Tie Ball" that highlighted awareness of the importance of reducing waste on campus and at home.

The Center for Alternative Wastewater Treatment (CAWT) has an on-site constructed wetland that filtrates water from part of the Frost Campus building. The constructed wetland is a centre piece of the Frost campus and can be viewed as students walk through the hallways. Students, Staff and Visitors also have the opportunity to tour the Centre to learn more about the latest applications in water quality technology. Models developed at the Centre are being applied in remote northern communities and internationally.

Skilled Trades students taking the Managing Technical Projects course, including most Electrical and Computer Engineering students, designed projects specifically to help to meet the goals and targets in Fleming College's Five Year Sustainability Plan. These projects looked at the implementation of roof gardens, more interior LED lighting, renewable energy applications and more for our main campus. Faculty noted that the focus on sustainability projects right on campus helped students to be highly engaged in their project designs.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative of the College includes a multi-faith prayer and meditation room, a Positive Space Education program and student -led awarenes events throughout the year including during Black History month, Gay Pride and Day of Pink, accessibility awareness, women's campus safety and more. In addition, Aboriginal Student Services offers a lounge where students can smudge, an on-site tipee at two campuses, regular drumming socials and other cultural events.

Students in the School of Business work with the Office of Sustainability to have bi-monthly Awareness Tables on a variety of sustainability issues in the main foyer of the college as well as organize and host events to raise money for sustainabilty initiatives. Students in the Ecosystem Management Program put on a major conference each year on a sustainability theme with this year's conference focused on Food, Water and Energy. All of these events provide hands-on opportunities for campus and community participants to learn how to practice sustainability in their daily lives.

Well-being is promoted in a variety of ways including Mental Health Awareness and the "Keep Calm, Study On" campaign during exam time. Many of these events and initiatives are led by students in the Schools of Community Development and Health and Wellness. Other initiatives include a newly formed Frost Campus Mental Health Initiative Team. The group is composed of representatives from Student Services, Counselling, Faculty, Frost Student Association, and First Generation Student Success. The initiative was developed to assist students navigate the challenges of college, and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.

The Atlantic Salmon Restoration program begins with an on-site hatchery where students learn how to raise cold water salmonids in a hatchery environment for the purposes of a species restoration program in partnership with conversation agencies and government.
