A brief description of steps taken to ensure that e-waste is recycled responsibly, workers’ basic safety is protected, and environmental standards are met:
The process used at Fleming is as follows:
1) The Operations Department is made aware that e-waste has been gathered for recycling. The vast majority of electronic waste is computer related, which is closely tracked and monitored by the IT Department.
2) The Operations Department contacts a 3rd party contractor (Shift Recycling) for pickup. Recycled waste includes anything with a circuit board (ie printer/ computer/ UPS/ microwaves).
In addition, a new agreement was recently executed with Dell to deal with end of life responsiblity for all of its products. Dell now takes back all their products at the end of their useful life.
A certificate is provided by electronic waste recyclers to confirm recycling done properly and safely.
