The Green Team

Promotes sustainability at Fayetteville State University, the University of North Carolina (UNC) system and the local community by advocating student involvement in green initiatives. Educates students, staff and others about conserving energy and water, recycling, reducing their green house gas (GHG) emissions, eating healthy and local grown and the advantages of renewable energy sources.

Club officers are elected, serve for one year and consist of President, Vice President and Secretary.

4/26/2012- Two student officers, one member and the group's advisor and co-advisor took a field trip and participated in a guided tour of the Clear Path Recycling, LLC., operations facility in Fayetteville, NC.

4/10/2012- The group partnered with two other student groups on Campus: Beta Kappa Chi and UNCFSU-HOSA, for a total of 21 students who volunteered one service hour each during a Campus-wide cleanup event. Trash and recyclables were picked up across Campus.

4/4/2012- The group sponsored an Earth Day Awareness Event in the Student Center Lobby. Two representatives from a local environmental non-profit organization (Sustainable Sandhills), a rep. from Onslow Container Service (OCS) which provides the Campus' Single Stream Recycling Service and officers, members and the advisor of The Green Team all had tables setup and were educating students and staff about some of the environmental sustainability programs, efforts and opportunities available on Campus.

3/26-30/2012- The group hosted a week-long recycling competition between all 22 residence halls, called "Recyclone." The winning dorm had an average of 2.31 pounds per resident student for the week. All total for the week 473 pounds of recyclables were diverted from the local landfill. Teh purpose of the event is to raise awareness and educate students about the need to recycle.
