Fanshawe College's Corporate Health and Safety Management System (CHSMS) is a key element in demonstrating that the College, its officers and management, demonstrate "due diligence" in managing health and safety issues. The system also describes how Supervisors, Managers and other Administrators of the College will comply with the requirements of the Fanshawe College Corporate Health and Safety Policy.
In 2003, Fanshawe College created the Corporate Health and Safety Management System (CHSMS). The Health and Safety Management System provides the framework for the College and its subsidiaries, its Officers and Management, to demonstrate “due diligence” in managing health and safety issues.
Fanshawe has many initiatives in place to improve workplace health and safety.

The comprehensive Corporate Health and Safety Management System follows the principles set out in CSA Z45001. Once every 5 years, an external audit confirms conformance to the standard. Among other things, the CHSMS ensures active engagement by workers at all levels of the organization.
Current college practices include:
- Timely access to information relevant to CHSMS by having health and safety as a standing agenda item, face-to-face at staff meetings or individually, and health and safety board postings.
Management of Change
-A Management of Change process has been developed to review all requests for new equipment, chemicals, work spaces, vehicles, events or academic lab activities that occur within the College. These requests undergo a Facilities management review and are returned with identified control measures that must be implemented in order for the request to occur.
- Supporting worker participation by having:
- Self-registration for online training
- Open access to Environment, Health, Safety and Emergency Services staff and SharePoint portal information.
