Board of Governors

Fanshawe College is governed by a Board of Governors comprised of 17 members, including external board members (typically stakeholders in local businesses), internal board members representing each of the student, support, academic and administrative staff constituencies and the college president. The Board is responsible for the governance of the College, including developing and overseeing the implementation of policies; setting the vision, mission, and direction for the organization; approving the college’s annual business plan, budget and annual report; and ensuring the organization is effectively and appropriately managed to achieve its mandate.

Fanshawe Student Union

The Fanshawe Student Union is a student body representative, designed to meet the various needs and expectations of students attending Fanshawe College. It is an organization committed to excellence in service and student support within the diverse student community of Fanshawe College. Objectives and outcomes related to sustainability include:

  • Improve and sustain mental health initiatives
  • Ensure responsible inclusivity of diverse student groups on campus
  • Presence and participation on college-wide committees and councils 
  • Develop a partnership with Western University (USC) to collaborate on municipal issues affecting local students; develop partnerships with regional campuses and other student associations

College Council

Comprised of members representing faculty, administration, and support staff from across the College as well as students and alumni, College Council advises the President on the creation, cancellation, modification and monitoring of academic policies and procedures of the College, as well as other matters concerning the educational mission of the College. Approved policies and procedures shall be made available to the College community.

Students, faculty, support staff, administration, and the alumni representatives are voting members.

 TOR01: COLLEGE COUNCIL Section 3.3 - Educational Equality: 

  • 3.3.1 Council promotes the accessibility of College programs within a changing social and demographic environment.
  • 3.3.2 Education equity focuses on groups who are recognized as traditionally having faced barriers to accessibility and/or completing studies within the provincial education system.
  • 3.3.3 Measures to ensure equitable access include: 
    • 3.3.3.1  The review of policies and procedures to remove bias and barriers towards particular groups
    • 3.3.3.2 The implementation of pro-active initiatives.

Indigenous Education Council:

The Indigenous Education Council has a special relationship with the Fanshawe College Board of Governors, with the common goal of providing more and better opportunities for Indigenous peoples.
