If total performance year carbon sinks are greater than zero, provide:

A brief description of the carbon sinks, including vendor, project source, verification program and contract timeframes (as applicable):

N/A

Adjusted net GHG emissions

Adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net GHG emissions 5,896.38 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 5,919.96 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Performance and baseline periods

Start and end dates of the performance year and baseline year (or three-year periods):
Performance year Baseline year
Start date Jan. 1, 2022 Jan. 1, 2019
End date Dec. 31, 2022 Dec. 31, 2019

A brief description of when and why the GHG emissions baseline was adopted:

The baseline is 3 years prior to the performance year, which is the most recent year with full data when collection began

Part 1. Reduction in GHG emissions per person

Weighted campus users

Figures needed to determine “Weighted Campus Users”:
Performance year Baseline year
Number of students resident on-site 1,620 1,220
Number of employees resident on-site 0 0
Number of other individuals resident on-site 0 0
Total full-time equivalent student enrollment 23,935 23,299
Full-time equivalent of employees 1,783 1,637.67
Full-time equivalent of students enrolled exclusively in distance education 1,677 928
Weighted Campus Users 18,435.75 18,311.50

Metrics used in scoring for Part 1

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user:
Performance year Baseline year
Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user 0.32 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent 0.32 Metric tons of CO2 equivalent

Percentage reduction in adjusted net Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emissions per weighted campus user from baseline:

Other energy intensive space 3,278.64 Square meters

EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
339,342.61 Gross square meters

Metric used in scoring for Part 2

Adjusted net Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions per unit of EUI-adjusted floor area, performance year:
0.02 MtCO2e per square meter

A brief description of the institution’s GHG emissions reduction initiatives:

Work is underway on Fanshawe's Campus Energy Centre (CEC), which will centralize the College’s cooling and heating equipment. The CEC will be completed in many phases over a 10+ year plan (CEC road map) and as capital funding becomes available.

The first phase of the project will be a new chilled water facility. The building will initially provide 3,000 tonnes of new cooling capacity. Three new chillers, three cooling towers, chilled water, condenser water pumps and a new electrical service will provide the College with years of capacity and reliability while reducing energy & maintenance costs.

The new building and distribution piping will be capable of expanding as the College’s needs change and as we connect more of our existing buildings when the current cooling equipment needs renewal.
