Gordon Manager Strategic Enterprise Solutions, Fanshawe College |
Has the institution been formally recognized for leadership in diversity, equity, and/or inclusion during the previous three years by a national or international program? :
A brief description of the diversity, equity, and/or inclusion recognition:
It was named in Forbes’ 2024 list of Canada’s best employers for diversity, ranking 96 out of 200 employers. Out of Canadian colleges on the list, Fanshawe ranks second highest. This list is based on a survey of Canadian workers who work at large employers; participants rated their companies on diversity-related issues, including age, gender, ethnicity, disability, and LGBTQ+ equality. In addition, Fanshawe demonstrates its inclusivity through formalized policies and established practices, like those described below.
In its policy on respectful college community and prevention of harassment and discrimination, the College confirms the rights of students, employees, and other College members to learn and work in an environment free from discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment; provides information on rights and obligations; communicates expectations; and establishes procedures to ensure complaints are dealt with on a timely manner. Prohibited grounds, in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code, includes but is not limited to sexual orientation, same sex partnership status, gender identity, gender expression. This policy is reviewed annually.
Fanshawe has formalized working groups (see documents) to develop an EDI strategic framework and related action plan, as well as to enhance representation of equity-deserving groups throughout the College. This initiatives aim to improve current state.
