Fanshawe is a member of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE).
Fanshawe College is also a member of Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) a national, voluntary membership organization representing publicly supported colleges, institutes, cegeps and polytechnics in Canada and internationally. Their strategy includes 3 values:
- Reconciliation: CICan worked in co-creation with our members to establish seven principles for Indigenous education to improve the participation, engagement and recognition of Indigenous communities in Canada’s colleges and institutes.
- Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: CICan is a signatory of the Government of Canada 50-30 Challenge. Colleges and institutes are playing a critical role in Canada’s progress in this area.
- Sustainable Development: CICan is a signatory of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Colleges and institutes are playing a critical role in Canada’s progress towards these goals.

Fanshawe College is a member of Ontario College and University Sustainability Proffesionals (OCUSP), an organization of individuals affiliated with Ontario colleges and universities with a leadership role in or significant responsibility for sustainability at their institutions. Our network of 35 Ontario institutions aims to develop best practices and collaborative opportunities in sustainability programming, operations, and academia.
Has the institution presented at a higher education sustainability conference during the previous year?:
A list or brief description of the conference(s) and presentation(s):
Fanshawe College presented at CICan member institution Board Governors Conference on April 26, 2022. The topic presented was "The role of boards in Sustainable Development". This session offered an opportunity for Governors (members of cegep, college and institute boards) from across the country to network and discuss issues of common interest. The interactive panel on the role of boards in Sustainable Development in college and institutes was followed by an opportunity to share challenges, learnings, and best practices from across the country. Best practices and key learnings were documented during the interactive discussions and shared back to participants.

As an SDG Accord signatory member of CICan, Fanshawe College submitted a case study titled "Unbound Fashion Design - Sustainable fashion, gender fluidity and water protection" to be published in the SDG Toolkit for Canadian Colleges and Institutes. The project duration ran from January - June 2023 and was lead by Loren Couto. Four major activites were planned and executed:
- Unbound Talks- Public event March 9 2023, aimed to raise awareness and educate people about sustainability, gender fluidity, and water protection. It intended to encourage thought-provoking conversations on these important topics. It featured eminent speakers who shared their knowledge and thoughts on the theme. The event highlighted Fanshawe fashion students' work on the Up-cycled jean design to demonstrate sustainable fashion practices. This event was also supported by Fanshawe Sustainability team.
- Unbound Portfolio/Runway Event- Sustainable fashion & Gender Fluidity - April 12, 2023,
- Digital Unbound Magazine - Gender Fluid & sustainable student collections - April 12, 2023
- Unbound ONE LOVE fashion film- gender fluidity, water protection and sustainability - June 30, 2023.

Peter Devlin, President of Fanshawe College, currently sits on the Board for CICan and recently completed a rotation as Chair of the Board. He also on the Board for Polytechnics Canada, which is a non-profit association representing 13 leading research-intensive, publicly supported polytechnics and institutes of technology.
