A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability:
The Sponsored Employee (SE) Program is a full-time seconded position that presents the employee with a unique professional development opportunity to further develop skills in facilitation, training, public speaking, project management, community development and fundraising.
The 16 week, full-time assignment involves working alongside people from many sectors, provides extensive training, and a deeper understanding of the people in the community that United Way serves.
· Fanshawe participates in the UW secondment program every year.
· The opportunity is posted and any full-time employee of Fanshawe College is eligible to apply.
· This involves paying for the salary of an employee seconded on a full-time to assist in fundraising activities from August – December (16 weeks).
· Fanshawe also fundraises in a variety of ways during the campaign and members at Fanshawe manage the program.

A brief description of the institution’s formal community partnership to advance sustainability (2nd partnership):
Empowerment through Skills Program in Tanzania - working with 2 rural folk development institutions, Fanshawe conducts a labour market assessment to determine skills needed for short term courses to support the economy and integrating women and girls into the workforce. Partnering with 2 other Cegep institutions in Quebec, the Canadian consortium works collaborative with local partners in Tanzania and provides training, equipment and leadership support. Program support also focusing on advancing gender mainstreaming initiatives and environmental sustainability factors.

Young Africa Works Program in Kenya - working with 2 rural technical vocational schools, Fanshawe supports the development and delivery of programming in agricultural extension, and food processing. We also lead the gender mainstreaming initiatives for the Canadian consortium which is led by a college in Alberta and supported by another college in British Columbia.

WORTH:
WORTH began in 2018 as a funded research project inititated by Fanshawe College's fashion design faculty with Goodwill Industries as a community partner. As of August 2021 it has been stewarded by Goodwill Industries with continued assistance from the faculty. WORTH "transforms end-of-use textiles into a symbol of sustainability, creating positive change through intentional design." All proceeds help give work opportunities to people with disabilities and social disadvantages. https://www.goodwillindustries.ca/worth/
