Has the institution held a sustainability-related outreach campaign during the previous three years that was directed at employees and yielded measurable, positive results in advancing sustainability?:
1st campaign
A brief description of the campaign:
Semester for Sustainability, a campaign led by Fanshawe College's Sustainability Department, is a term-long campaign whose main goal is to educate the students and employees about SDGs. It showcased colorful booths with sustainability tasks to complete. Those who completed the tasks were given sustainability hampers as a prize. The SDGs were also displayed on televisions around the campus for everyone to see. Throughout the term, Fanshawe Sustainability was joined by other college departments and community organizations who exhibited their contributions to sustainable development.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign:
The activities for Semester for Sustainability were actively participated by students. They learned about the SDGSs,"how relevant they are in everyday life, what Fanshawe is doing to meet the goals, and what actions students can take to contribute." They also encouraged their friends to join and follow. "It is hoped many more will mirror this. The effects of the adopted changes may not be visible instantly but will pay great dividends in making sure we have a future – a future of peace, prosperity, and sustainable living." - Source: https://www.theinterrobang.ca/article?aID=16712
Social media analytics revealed a 439% increase in sccounts reached and 144% increase in accounts engaged in the first month of the campaign.

A brief description of the campaign (2nd campaign):
WORTH began in 2018 as a funded research project inititated by Fanshawe College's fashion design faculty with Goodwill Industries as a community partner. As of August 2021 it has been stewarded by Goodwill Industries with continued assistance from the faculty. WORTH "transforms end-of-use textiles into a symbol of sustainability, creating positive change through intentional design." All proceeds help give work opportunities to people with disabilities and social disadvantages. https://www.goodwillindustries.ca/worth/
THE STORY
The pop up started in 2016 - the mission to slow down fast fashion. This event helps educate students about the effects of fast fashion on our planet, where clothes go after you are done wearing them, donation centers, what happens once they reach Goodwill Industries, and the process of trying to keep them from going to landfill.

A brief description of the measured positive impact(s) of the campaign (2nd campaign):
1. WORTH:
For the Planet:
"Using 100% of the articles collected, our zero-waste, fully circular approach relies on the idea that items have worth even after they’ve been discarded."
For the People:
"All of our remanufactured items are produced by Goodwill Industries, in our facility in London, Ontario, Canada, where we operate a social benefits program that focuses on skills training, functional language education, and meaningful work for newcomers to Canada and individuals who face barriers to employment."
For the Community:
"All proceeds help provide work opportunities, skills development and family strengthening for people who face barriers such as disability or social disadvantage with the aim of advancing individuals, families and communities toward self-sufficiency and prosperity."

2. THE STORY
Working with Goodwill students learn and understand the importance of what Goodwill stands for, to improve the quality of life for people who have barriers to employment by providing skills training and work opportunities. Many of our students have barriers that they have had to overcome and or are still working on them. All of them relate to this and that is what makes this project so meaningful. The name "The Story" came to life as we all have a story, taking time to listen and help you learn a lot about someone. The clothing also has a story, from where it first was purchased or made to sell it at the pop-up shop.
Optional Fields
Bike to Campus Day is an initiative organised by the Fanshawe College Sustainability office in collaboration with the city of London last September 2022. Students and staff were asked to come to the campus on their bikes instead of taking their cars to promote a positive impact on the environment.

FSU Bikes is a bike sharing program of the Fanshawe Student Union where students can borrow a bike (for up to three days). This gives students a feasible and healthy alternative to buses and taxis. It also helps the environment by reducing the number of single-rider vehicles.
