A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :
Orientation is done annually with the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU) leading the way. The FSU has made many permanent changes to how they do orientation, with sustainability an important feature. Examples include using compostable napkins, dishes, and dinneware to reduce waste going to landfill and educate new students on how to proerly sort their waste while on campus; having extra waste diversion stations; posting hashtags instead of handing out paper flyers and info packages to reduce paper use; having bottle-fill stations and not handing out single-use bottled water to reduce plastic waste and promote water conservation.
Throughout orientation activities, #fanshawesustainability is used on instagram posts geared toward educating new students on how to live more sustainably while at Fanshawe. EnviroFanshawe is on hand during events to assist new students with properly disposing of waste.
During the Orientation Student Service Fair, Fanshawe Sustainability staff and volunteers engage new students about sustainability on campus and in their personal lives through conversations, trivia, and games.
