The Honours Bachelor of Environmental Design and Planning (BEDP) degree offers learning within four integrated academic cores: environmental design, planning, geographic information systems (GIS), computer-aided design and communication. Emphasis is on the use of GIS for context analysis and computer-aided design visualization. The curriculum has artistic and scientific appeal. Students explore, analyze, conceptualize and present design and planning problems, opportunities, ideas and solutions. Sustainability is a program principle for action. It informs design and planning goals related to places’ ecological, economic, socio-cultural and aesthetic dimensions and is demonstrated through applied community projects.
This four-year, honours degree combines the theory, knowledge and techniques of landscape architecture, urban design and planning with training in geographic information systems and computer-aided design. Become proficient in the application of industry-standard digital technologies and cutting-edge design and communication methods to real world problem-solving and presentation of ideas.

Maintaining, nurturing and protecting the environment is a global priority. As a result, understanding the environment and providing innovative solutions using new and emerging technologies has never been more important. Take the first step toward an in-demand, respected and vital career helping the planet with Fanshawe's Environmental Technology program.
Over three years of environmental training and 12 to 16 months of paid co-op placement, you will study and gain experience in environmental processes that provides foundational knowledge of air, water and waste management issues. The environmental course curriculum includes bacteriology, analytical chemistry, air pollution meteorology, water quality management, industrial hygiene and hydrogeology. This environmental program emphasizes measurement and analysis techniques as well as legislation for air, water and waste.
The theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience using state-of-the-art instrumentation, combined with real work applications, will give you a competitive edge upon graduation with your environmental diploma.

This three-year Building Renovation Technology Advanced Diploma program will prepare students to plan, implement, and lead building and renovation projects and equip them with the skills to manage the technical and business operations related to a range of building projects in the residential and light commercial sectors of the construction industry.
The program will address the changes in the Ontario Building Code, introduced in January 2017, which dramatically increased the requirement for buildings to be sustainable and highly energy efficient.

No doubt, renewable energy is no longer a trendy buzzword. In fact, it’s now at the heart of our power grid, lighting our homes and making sure the economy keeps moving forward. If you’re excited about the career potential available in this growing sector, and are looking to gain the skills necessary to begin, the Renewable Energies Technician program will open the door to limitless potential.
You’ll begin by building foundational knowledge in the electrical, electronic and mechanical disciplines and how they function in the Renewable Energies sector. As well, you’ll study the design and installation techniques required to work with various Renewable Energy solutions such as Solar Energy, Wind Turbines, Biomass Energy and Geothermal Energy Systems. You’ll also examine the best industry practices of health, safety and environmental conservation along with complete safety training for working at heights and confined spaces. Plus, you’ll be introduced to the general concepts associated with global climate change and the practicalities associated with sustainable energy including conservation techniques.
When you graduate, you’ll have an in-depth working knowledge of current practice in the installation, commissioning and routine maintenance and repair of Photovoltaic and Wind Turbine generating systems enabling them to function effectively in the utility scale Wind Turbine and Solar Photovoltaic industries.

To prepare you for the dynamic and complex ecotourism industry, this outdoor adventure diploma program has been built on three key pillars:
- Adventure Expedition
- Interpretive Naturalist
- Business Entrepreneurship
You’ll study marketing and business strategies, along with ecological and science-based courses in flora and fauna, geology, adventure guiding, environmental interpretation and education, management of national and heritage of natural areas, and wilderness first aid.
Students have the opportunity to receive over 16 outdoor certifications upon graduation, ensuring they have the skills to be successful in a variety of relevant disciplines. When finished the program, you’ll graduate with a holistic view of the natural world, and with knowledge of the conservation, tourism and business sides of the adventure industry.
