Smoke Free Campus

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:

Fanshawe is committed to providing a healthy campus environment. Given the legalization of recreational cannabis use on Wednesday, October 17, and the Government of Ontario's introduction of Bill 36, the Cannabis Statute Law Amendment Act, 2018, which allows cannabis smoking wherever tobacco is permitted, the College has made the decision that on November 1, 2018, all Fanshawe campuses and properties will become smoke-free.

As of November 1, 2018, smoking any form of tobacco and/or cannabis, vaping and use of e-cigarettes and smokeless tobacco (commonly known as chewing tobacco) will not be permitted anywhere on Fanshawe property. In accordance with applicable legislation and the Workplace Accommodation Policy, Fanshawe will provide accommodation for the medical use of cannabis. With the exception of medical cannabis, edibles are not permitted on campus. For students in residence, the promotion, distribution and growing of cannabis is also not permitted.
