Implementation will continue of utility metering strategies to further enhance energy conservation and reduce utility operating costs. Custodial Services will continue to work to improve waste/recycle methods and increase compost collection with new signs in classrooms/hallways. Recycling goals are targeted to increase to 65% for the college, consistent with the waste recycling audit plan submitted to the Ministry of the Environment under regulation. Consistent with the London Campus Master Plan, the adaptation and re-purposing of existing building space on campus provides a strategic, sustainability-friendly opportunity to shift the College’s development towards the west and better utilize existing, scarce College land resources.

Through the coordination efforts of the College’s first Sustainability Coordinator, the College will strive to achieve a bronze level certification from the Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (STARS) in Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). By completing the application of the STARS report, Fanshawe College will address the social components required as part of their submission and Bronze level certification.

Fanshawe College has added its voice along with Colleges Ontario to suggest that the government establish a tuition-fee framework that is distinct to colleges and is part of a long-term effort to ensure fiscal sustainability for the college sector while maintaining accessibility for students. An average allocation of approximately $850,000 per year is included for general adaptation renovations to meet changes in programming and service delivery needed as well as to support facilities infrastructure renewal and sustainability.
