A brief description of the institution’s programs that help increase the diversity of higher education faculty :

Estrella Mountain Community College is active in developing its adjunct faculty, providing them with training that would assist them in future full-time positions. EMCC provides an Adjunct Faculty Support Services Office, Adjunct Faculty Association, and an active list of job opportunities. There is an annual district wide Adjunct Faculty Conference and Professional Growth funds that adjunct faculty that provides reimbursement for adjunct faculty participation in conferences, workshops, and other trainings.

As part of the Maricopa Community Colleges, EMCC can participate in a number of additional opportunities. The Maricopa Faculty Internship (MFI) is a 9-month internship program designed to provide teaching experience, mentorship, and professional growth opportunities for people interested in pursuing residential faculty positions in the Maricopa Community Colleges. The Maricopa Community Colleges will actively recruit candidates in disciplines where there is underutilization identified in the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) Affirmative Action Plan. Identified general disciplines at this time include: English/Humanities/Social Science; Math; Natural Science; and Nursing. The MCCCD Creative Pathways program offers employees (not just faculty) internships and other experiences in order to explore different career opportunities within the colleges. Finally, the Talent Management program develops employees for future leadership roles in both the faculty and administrative positions for the colleges.

Finally, EMCC and MCCCD’s Equal Opportunity program demonstrates the commitment to diversity and inclusive in hiring minorities, women, persons with disabilities and veterans.
