Pursuing Wind Power with Wind Contract for Differences

None
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Cooperatively with Power Options and Tufts, Endicott participated in an RFP to procure wind or solar resources off site for up to 40% of our electric load. The supply would be purchased on a long-term contract for differences. Final negotiations are in progress. For out efforts the consortium has won the first annual Boston Green Ribbon Commission's Renewable Energy Prize. The prize carries a cash award of $100,000 which will largely go to Tufts with about 5-10% to Endicott (based on the size of our electric load). The prize, funded by the Barr Foundation, was awarded to the consortium who developed the best strategy for large-scale renewable energy. Our proposal uses wind energy from New Hampshire to provide a long-term hedge for a portion of our wholesale power purchases. Power Options was instrumental in putting together an RFP process that resulted in a competitive proposal. We are still finalizing the details of the electricity purchase and our final decision to participate in the contract will be determined by the financial model that Power Options is building.
