All College Community Meetings Provide Opportunities to Showcase Sustainability

None
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome :
Endicott has an unusually large number of regular events that bring together all full and part-time employees of the College in order to be updated, give input, or celebrate in each other’s company. These events provide opportunities to provide detailed information about sustainability. These meetings include (with examples of how sustainability has been included specifically): • Start of Year Orientation: At the end of August all employees gather for several hours to kick off the school year, hear updates, meet new employees, and gather for lunch. Sustainability is included in this event with specific information in the President's welcome, information about tuition affordability, information about diversity, and specific discussions about campus transportation. • All Campus January Meeting: In January all employees gather for the morning to hear updates. In addition, this meeting generally has some small group discussions on a relevant topic. For example, in January 2015 all College employees discuss student retention. The meeting is followed by lunch. • Community Day: In the week after commencement, all employees participate in Community Day during which a variety of activities are offered. These include activities such as a golf tournament, fishing, paddle boarding, bike riding, and sitting on the local beach. Employees then gather for lunch. Many of the activities and the intent of the entire day is the building of community and the enjoyment of the out of doors. • Community Meetings: All staff meetings are held monthly for 1 hour to provide updates on current issues and events. These meetings provide opportunities to provide specific information on targetted topics that have included waste and recycling, energy efficiency, solar energy, and "what you can do". (The link below provides some of the presentations) These monthly community meetings and semi-annual community days are innovative ways to bring the college community together. Through these gatherings members of the community are able to interact with each other to discuss events, programs and happenings put on by the college. These meetings place emphasis on interdepartmental collaboration and strive to create cohesion within the Endicott community.

A brief description of any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation (if not reported above):
Orientation and All campus January meeting : The entire staff and faculty are present to hear the importance of sustainability in college operations. Community Day: The entire staff and faculty are encouraged to attend. Participation is very high among staff and about 50% of the faculty attend. Campus-wide meetings: Monthly these meetings attract about 150 faculty and staff who have heard specific in-depth presentations. Endicott has been voted one of both the Chronicle of Higher Education's Great Colleges to Work For and Boston Magazine's and Great Places to Work. These outcomes help to build the collaborative atmosphere that promotes sustainability throughout.
