In keeping with its Vision Statement of becoming a destination university recognized as an inquiry-driven, ethically engaged and inclusive community, Emory created the Office of Community and Diversity in March 2007 and added an advisory board in August 2007 tasked to recommend, advise and implement policy and programs as it relates to diversity on campus. The committee's charge is to make recommendations that strengthen inclusion at Emory. The group works together to address issues, offer solutions and formulate policies that promote "community and diversity" on campus. Diversity Officer’s Council was founded in 2008 to address issues of diversity and increase collaboration between diversity-related work across the university. The council is comprised of those staff and faculty for whom diversity and community topics are at the core of their job description and position.
