A brief description of how the strategic plan or amendment addresses the environmental dimensions of sustainability:

Emory’s Strategic Plan, adopted in September 2005, places a high level priority on sustainability and addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability throughout the document. Included in the plan’s five strategic goals are commitments to build an Emory whose “culture and physical environment enrich the lives and intellectual work of faculty, students, and staff” and “a place where scholars work collaboratively as a strong and vital community to confront the human condition and experience and explore twenty-first century frontiers in science and technology”. Sustainability is included as part of the five university-wide initiatives and is defined in the Strategic plan as “related to the quality of life in a community-whether the economic, social, and environmental systems are providing a healthy, productive, and meaningful life for community residents, present and future". The Strategic Plan also describes the “dilemmas of sustainability for the University” as “opportunities for leadership in [the] management and operational practices as well as development of research and scholarship”.

In specific regards to the environmental dimensions of sustainability, the plan mentions Emory's ethical commitment to "enhance the environment through innovative stewardship" and "planning comprehensively... in balance with the environment."

Emory’s Strategic Plan, adopted in September 2005, places a high level priority on sustainability and addresses the social, economic, and environmental dimensions of sustainability throughout the document. In specific regards to the social dimensions of sustainability, the plan mentions promoting diversity and educating students to become engaged 21st century citizens. There are also multiple sections devoted to "fostering community life", "partnerships in the Atlanta community", and "building a culture of philanthropy".

In 2009-10, Emory's Office of University-Community Partnerships was charged with encouraging the strategic plan's commitment to community-engaged learning and partnered with the Office of Sustainability to develop new community partners, an enhanced internship program around sustainability, and faculty development efforts to encourage incorporation of social dimensions of sustainability in curricula of all schools.
