A brief description of the IPM plan(s) :
Emory's Grounds Department practices Integrated Plant Pest Management principles relative to insect and disease control. Insecticide usage is very limited (fire ants, leaf miners, borers), as is the use of fungicide, which is limited to athletic field turf and is used only when the life of the turf is threatened. Applicators are trained and certified, and meticulous records are kept relative to pesticide usage.
Emory's Pest Control is managed by Orkin.
Green LEED Program IPM Protocol-
Prevention- remove pest habitat, food sources, and breeding areas.
Exclusion-Insure that the building is sealed tight to prevent entry.
Environmental Management- manage light, temperature, humidity, and air circulation to minimize pest reproduction.
Mechanical means-traps, lights, or sounds.
Non-toxic chemical-Use lures, repellents, pheromones, and other substances on the approved list.
If the aforementioned control measures are ineffective then a non-synthetic or synthetic substance from the “approved list” may be applied. All pesticide applications are subject to following federal and state guidelines for usage and posting requirements.
