A brief description of the pre-consumer food waste composting program:
Emory has partnered with Greenco Environmental, the leading organic recycling company servicing the Southeast, to establish a comprehensive composting program for Emory's campus. The following facilities on campus are participating in Emory's composting program: The DUC, Cox Hall, Fraternity Row, Wesley Woods, Emory University Hospital. In addition, Whitehead Research Center and Clinic B compost their animal bedding and research mortalities. Composting is also available for special events involving food residuals.
Pre-consumer food waste is collected by Emory's Dining Services staff and deposited into special bins that are serviced by Greenco. Some of the compost produced at Greenco's facility is then bought back by the Emory Grounds Department and used for on-campus grounds maintenance.
The following can be composted through the program:
FOOD RESIDUALS:
*meat, poultry, fish
*shellfish and bones
