Has the institution developed a definition of sustainability research?:
Yes

A copy of the institution's definition of sustainability research:

Research projects (funded or unfunded) related to sustainability lead toward solutions that support economic prosperity, social well-being, and ecological health. They may: Focus on a key principle of sustainability (such as social equity or environmental stewardship), address a sustainability challenge (such as climate change or poverty), or further our understanding of the interconnectedness of social and environmental challenges.

Has the institution identified its sustainability research activities and initiatives?:
Yes

A brief description of the methodology the institution followed to complete the inventory:

In December 2008, 1,100 Emory faculty, excluding medical and part-time, temporary faculty, were sent an online survey to determine faculty participation in sustainability-related research. Questions were based on STARS criteria.

In the fall of 2010, another survey to identify sustainability-related research was conducted, this time including medical faculty. In addition, individual e-mails were sent out to a number faculty members to follow-up on or request information about potentially sustainability-related research, resulting in the addition of many new research projects.

Does the institution make its sustainability research inventory publicly available online?:
Yes
