A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about student commuting:
Every two years, Massachusetts issues a commuter survey that Emerson is required to complete with sufficient/representative data. The most recent survey was issued in 2021. The representative sample was reached via email and signage.

3.65% of trips taken by students during the week studied were drive-alone trips. All others fell into sustainable transportation categories.

A brief description of the method(s) used to gather data about employee commuting:
Every two years, Massachusetts issues a commuter survey that Emerson is required to complete with sufficient/representative data. The most recent survey was issued in 2021. This survey covers staff but not faculty. The representative sample was reached via email and signage.

21.27% of trips taken by staff during the week studied were drive-alone trips. All others fell into sustainable transportation categories.

Note that the data above are collected as the total percentage of trips taken in a given week in each category of transportation. The survey used does not ask individuals about their primary mode of transportation. Instead, each student and staff member records how they travel to campus during a specific sample week in October, 2021.

Note: employees surveyed only include staff, not faculty.
