A brief description of how sustainability is included prominently in new student orientation :

Sustainability is included in multiple aspects of Emerson's orientation. Each undergraduate/transfer student receives a resource packet during move-in, which includes an informational sheet about sustainability at Emerson. They also receive a welcome bag in their room, which includes a reusable clamshell and reusable tumbler for Dining Center use. During Orientation, Campus Services hosted a Q&A where the Campus Sustainability Manager and AVP of Campus Services answers questions about sustainability efforts and commitments at campus. Lastly, Campus Services organizes a sustainability kickoff event where all campus environmental groups and some local Boston environmental advocates come together to informally meet incoming students and offer involvement opportunities.

Graduate student orientation at Emerson is significantly shorter than undergraduate student orientation. Thus, sustainability is incorporated through the Graduate Student Association (GSA) Reception. The Campus Sustainability Manager tables during the event introducing graduate students to involvement opportunities and Emerson's Climate Commitment. The Campus Sustainability Manager spoke to over 50% of the incoming graduate students. Additionally, graduate students are invited to the sustainability kickoff event to meet Emerson's environmental groups and local environmental advocates.

The programming above is planned collaborative between the Sustainability Manager and the orientation planning team. In particular, one of the student orientation coordinators (a group of students who work for a full calendar year, including full-time during the summer, to put together orientation programming) is specifically assigned as the liaison between orientation and the sustainability office.
