The green building guidelines or policies:
The remainder of the space consists of:
Remodeled office space in floors of buildings we lease property from; one of the three buildings included is LEED O+M
All of our renovated building spaces, including on leased properties, must utilize energy and water efficient design and operation.
We were not able to meet LEED standards for out Paramount Center (residence hall, historic Paramount theatre, and classroom space) because of the historic theatre's energy requirements, which is housed within the Center. However, the Paramount Center was remodeled and constructed with the same resource efficiency standards as all of our LEED buildings. The Center went through renovation and construction and opened for use in 2010. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and fixtures were chosen for their energy and resource conservation. The building was designed to meet Massachusetts energy code (https://www.mass.gov/service-details/building-energy-codes).
Do the green building guidelines or policies cover the following?:
Yes or No | |
Impacts on the surrounding site (e.g. guidelines to reuse previously developed land, protect environmentally sensitive areas, and otherwise minimize site impacts) | Yes |
Energy consumption (e.g. policies requiring a minimum level of energy efficiency for buildings and their systems) | Yes |
Building-level energy metering | Yes |
Use of environmentally preferable materials (e.g. guidelines to minimize the life cycle impacts associated with building materials) | Yes |
Indoor environmental quality (i.e. guidelines to protect the health and comfort of building occupants) | Yes |
Water consumption (e.g. requiring minimum standards of efficiency for indoor and outdoor water use) | Yes |
Building-level water metering | Yes |
A brief description of the green building guidelines or policies and/or a list or sample of buildings covered:
All new building construction must be LEED B+D certified. All remodels and renovations, both in Emerson owned and leased spaces, must follow energy and water efficiency guidelines, requiring us to create resource saving infrastructure and resource saving technologies.
None
A brief description of how the institution ensures compliance with green building design and construction guidelines and policies:
We have a construction department that works with architects and construction companies with oversight from Emerson senior leadership, USGBC and the City of Boston. All building renovation and construction plans must go through detailed monitoring to ensure compliance with the college's and city's green building policies.
