Local advocacy

Does the institution advocate for public policies that support campus sustainability or that otherwise advance sustainability at the municipal/local level?:
Yes

A brief description of how the institution engages in public policy advocacy for sustainability at the municipal/local level:
Elon University continues to work with local authorities to advocate for increased access to, and safety for, bicycle and pedestrian routes that serve the campus and surrounding area as well as public transportation services. Representatives from the university have been involved in related planning efforts with nearby municipalities. Representatives of Elon University's Senior Staff advocated for a new greenway connecting Elon University to downtown Burlington. Elon University provided funding and property to support this project, which is expected to be complete in 2020.
Elon University's BioBus system has two stops within close proximity to stops for the local public bus system, which provides some connectivity between the two systems.
