Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Primary Care Services

A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In January 2018, Elon University’s Faculty and Staff Health & Wellness Clinic began offering primary care services. This new program enables the Clinic to be a faculty or staff member’s primary care doctor with the following services: yearly health physical (no gynecological exam), medication management, disease management, referrals to specialists and preventive care and counseling. Faculty and staff who are covered under Elon’s health insurance (Plan A or B) are eligible for primary care services. Faculty and staff spouses who are covered under Elon’s health insurance (Plan A or B) and currently being managed by the Clinic Physician Assistant for chronic health issues and have no existing primary care doctor may be allowed into the primary care services program at the discretion of the Clinic medical provider. Participants in the program do not pay co-pays or co-insurances for primary care services. The new primary care services program is in addition to the Clinic’s existing acute care and procedural services. Providing primary care services at an on-campus clinic for no additional cost to health insurance enrollees is unique, especially for a private institution of Elon’s size. The new program provides cost-effective, convenient and quality care for Elon faculty and staff and qualifying spouses. Those without a primary care doctor will now be able to have one to help them reach their best health. The goal of the program is to help control rising health care costs and improve productivity. It is also a wonderful recruitment benefit.
