A brief summary of the climate plan’s long-term goals:

By 2050, reduce emissions the greater of: 57.5% below 2005 levels, or 70% below business as usual levels projected for 2050. The following strategies will be pursued per the Edmonds Community College Climate Action Plan: Buildings and Energy Use - Build New Construction to Green Building Standards, Retrofit Existing Facilities for Energy Efficiency, Improve Lighting Efficiency, Improve Building Operations Efficiency, Produce On-Site Renewable Energy, Monitor Building Performance, Improve energy efficiency in IT, Improve office appliance efficiency, Improve efficiency of facilities use/scheduling, Purchase green energy to offset energy use, Outreach and education to students, faculty, and staff about energy conservation; Transportation - Discourage idling of engines in parking lots, Reduce fuel use/mileage in fleet, Change fuel mix in fleet, Decrease single occupancy vehicle (SOV) driving to campus by providing alternate commute options, Market/promote/incentivize alternate commute options, Encourage use of alternative vehicles, Track transportation usage, Decrease college travel miles; Materials Management , Increase composting across campus, Increase recycling across campus, Recycle or reuse all surplus materials, Create policy and culture to reduce paper use, Increase green purchasing, Eliminate plastic water bottles and bags, Provide a framework for campus grounds that thrive, Evaluate alternatives for wastes produced by academic activities; Food - Divert waste from the landfill, Increase use of local/organic foods on campus, Recycle cooking oil, Encourage healthy living by cooking and eating healthy foods.
