Name of the institution’s featured sustainability program, initiative, or accomplishment:
Carbon Neutrality at ÉTS (Scopes 1 & 2)

A brief description of the institution’s featured program, initiative, or accomplishment:

In 2019, ÉTS committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030. By 2021, this was achieved! ÉTS became the first carbon-neutral university in Montreal and the second in Quebec. However, it is the only one to do so by purchasing Gold Standard credits. ÉTS has achieved carbon neutrality for scopes 1 and 2 by adopting the approach: measure, reduce, offset. It has developed a unique and innovative system that allows it to not only offset its footprint through the purchase of Gold Standard certified carbon credits, but also to invest in research projects aimed at reducing GHG emissions (see FRECC in credit AC10). In addition, ÉTS is committed to maintaining its leadership in energy efficiency by continuing to develop major energy efficiency projects on its campus. Finally, ÉTS wishes to design future developments on its campus in a carbon-neutral manner. In addition, ÉTS is currently developing its Scope 3 emissions reduction strategy.
