Name or title of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome:
Planetair+ÉTS (Applied Research) Portfolio - Gold Standard certified credits
A brief description of the innovative policy, practice, program, or outcome that outlines how credit criteria are met and any positive measurable outcomes associated with the innovation:
In May 2020, as part of the development of its carbon neutrality approach, ÉTS developed a partnership with the non-profit organization Planetair, ranked number 1 in Quebec in the sale of carbon credits by Protégez-vous (see paragraph below), to develop the Planetair+ÉTS (Applied Research) Portfolio. This offset product offers carbon credits that meet the highest international standards (Gold Standard certified). In addition, Planetair donates an amount equivalent to 20% of the sales directly to the Climate Change ETS Research Fund (FRECC) (see credit AC10). FRECC funds ÉTS research projects aimed at developing technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To our knowledge, this is the only product of its kind in the voluntary carbon market. It is available to any potential client on the planet. It allows offsetting today 100% of the desired emissions according to the highest world standards (Gold Standard certified credits), but also to invest in applied research to develop even more efficient reduction technologies for the future!
In October 2021, FRECC's scientific committee selected the winner of its first call for projects. Sylvain Cloutier, professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at ÉTS, received $25,000 in funding for his project on a photocatalytic cell to degrade CO2 using solar energy. The next FRECC call for projects will be in June 2022.
« Protégez-Vous is a non-profit organization. It's a passionate team that offers sound advice through a website, apps, how-to guides, a magazine and initiatives like the Protect-You-Recommendation seals. Independent of any commercial influence, because they are supported by our subscribers, our experts carry out dozens of tests on thousands of products every year in specialized laboratories. In addition, they conduct rigorous polls and autonomous surveys to highlight the best consumer choices. » https://www.protegez-vous.ca/pv/a-propos
