Does the institution host a food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource focused on alleviating food insecurity, hunger and poverty among students?:
Yes
A brief description of the food bank, pantry, or equivalent resource:
ÉTS hosts a Food Bank to address the food insecurity needs of its student community: Student Life Services with the ÉTS Office of Philanthropy and Alumni launched the ÉTS Food Bank on November 1, 2021.
In addition, there is a section on the Office of Philanthropy and Alumni website dedicated to the Food Bank for donations and for students who wish to apply to receive a basket and register for the ÉTS Food Bank. Prior to the establishment of the continuously operating food bank, a Christmas hampers initiative for students in need had been in existence for several years. For the past few years, Student Life Services at ÉTS has seen a 20% increase in requests for Christmas hampers each year. Realizing that our students do not only need this support during the holidays, but rather throughout the year, we launched the ÉTS Food Bank. One hundred and fifty (150) hampers are distributed each month on a first-come, first-served basis!
The Student Life Services financial aid team analyzes the requests and if the students correspond to the eligibility criteria, they receive a confirmation with the date and time to pick up their basket of food and fruits and vegetables. A cost of $5 per distribution is required (value of the basket is approximately $100 worth of food) when registering, which will be done once per session. For the fall session, two distributions are planned (November and December). Therefore, a cost of $10 will be required for the fall 2021. In addition, all applications will be treated as confidential.
