Course Inventory

A brief description of the methodology used to determine the total number of courses offered and to identify sustainability course offerings, including the definitions used and the process for reviewing and/or validating the course inventory :
For each course, the title and its description were analyzed with an algorithm created in Excel. The algorithm contained a list of keywords previously compiled by the school's sustainable development resource people. If any of the words were found in the course content, it was then included in a preliminary list. Then each courses of the preliminary list was analyzed thouroughly by the resource people manually.
Some courses were automatically excluded from the analysis because their content varies from year to year and from student to student and therefore may not be suitable for STARS' analysis criteria. Thus, directed readings, student exchanges, special projects, thesis, dissertations, project writing in progress, doctoral exams, research activities in progress and special topics were not analyzed.
The list of keywords has been attached below.
How were courses with multiple offerings or sections counted for the figures reported above?:
Each course was counted as a single course regardless of the number of offerings or sections
