A brief description of the undergraduate degree program:

Students develop an understanding of major environmental issues and their potential solutions by appreciating the importance of scientific methods, ethical values and principles, diverse worldviews, and social and political constraints, which are relevant to addressing these issues. Students learn about the complex connections between natural and built environments, and between these environments and our social and cultural institutions. Many disciplinary perspectives and tools are employed to understand and analyze these connections, including those offered by the natural and social sciences, and the humanities.

Construction Management

A brief description of the undergraduate degree program (2nd program):

The Construction Management (CM) program focuses on teaching the technical and business skills required to prepare men and women for middle- and upper-level management in the construction industry. The CM major reflects the current needs and trends in the construction industry. It has been developed in cooperation with experts from the construction industry, guidelines established by major construction associations, and feedback from employers and graduates. The CM program is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. Coursework is structured to teach students problem-solving skills needed through hands-on learning. Emphases are placed on construction cost estimating, scheduling, contracts, construction law, project management, surveying, sustainability, material testing and safety management. All students are required to complete a co-op work placement course. The construction management major also includes coursework in general education with specified science and mathematics courses, business courses, electives and technical courses.

Sustainability Minor

A brief description of the undergraduate minor or concentration:

Scholarly discussions of sustainability aim to address three basic questions: sustainability of what, for what, for whom, and why? The Sustainability Minor takes an interdisciplinary approach to answering these questions. Students who participate in the Minor will think critically about different views of sustainability, and will refine their abilities to communicate effectively with regard to sustainability-related issues.
