EMU's Health Center provides counseling, referrals and wellbeing services to students through a Nurse Practitioner and certified Counselor.
For faculty and staff, EMU's wellness program is a voluntary health assessment program that provides a small reduction in health insurance premiums as an incentive for participation. In past years participants were required to meet BMI, blood pressure, cholesterol and nicotine usage levels in annual testing on campus, however this year the university moved to simply requiring an annual physical with the participant's primary care physician as recent research has shown equal or better health outcomes at lower costs. A university Wellness Committee hosts cooking and nutrition classes/events, fitness events and a wellness passport program that encourages employees to find new ways of attending to their physical, social, spiritual and intellectual well-being. EMU also contracts with Optima Employee Assistance Program to provide confidential counseling.
