On July 16, 2015, Eastern Mennonite University Board of Trustees met to review the non-discrimination statement that has been under review. The trustees passed by majority vote an update to EMU’s non-discrimination statement as follows:

Eastern Mennonite University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or any legally protected status. As a religious institution, EMU expressly reserves its rights, its understandings of, and its commitments to the historic Anabaptist identity and the teachings of Mennonite Church USA, and reserves the legal right to hire and employ individuals who support the values of the university.

To promote equality at Eastern Mennonite University, there are a variety of campus wide efforts to support underrepresented groups. support programs are broken into a variety of categories to target specific groups of individuals with the hopes of encompassing all of the underrepresented groups within the university student and staff body. Academically, the Academic Support Center houses the COACHLINK program that is aimed at giving support to first generation college students. This program is also directed at students that speak english as a second or third language as a way to make their transition to the university easier. As a form of academic tutoring, The athletic department offers academic mentoring to all of its athletes.
Various student organized groups have been established as places where students can give each other support. Examples of these groups include the Black Student Union, Latino Student Alliance, and Safe Space (support for members of the LGBTQ community).
EMU also has an international and multicultural student service office to support the international student group that is represented on campus. This office hosts various multicultural activities throughout the school year that include International student week, latino heritage month, black history month, and women's history month.
