EKU's Student Government Association (SGA) Mission Statement: "is an organization dedicated to benefiting and representing the student body and the EKU community by communicating effectively, maintaining teamwork, transparency, a positive attitude and pride for EKU." Preamble: We the students of Eastern Kentucky University in order to form a more perfect association, to provide for a representative body, to promote student self-governance, to participate in the policy and decision-making processes of the University community, to foster an environment which will promote academic growth, to promote communications and understanding within the University community and beyond, and to encourage awareness of and participation in a democratic society, do hereby establish this Constitution for the Eastern Kentucky University Student Government Association. General Matters: Section A. In the spirit of shared governance, the Student Government Association is recognized as an official representation body by the approval of the Board of Regents. The Association is afforded a maximum aggregate of self-governance in its operations and to represent students in university affairs as provided in this Constitution or its Bylaws... The Board meets a least once each quarter and in special meetings at the call of the chairperson of the Board.

EKU The Staff Council is here to: - Foster communication and serve as a communication conduit between staff and the President - Provide recommendations on all matters pertaining to staff - Promote the welfare of all staff through professional development and formal recognition while serving the Mission of the University EKU Staff Council: http://staffcouncil.eku.edu/about-staff-council In addition to staff council, EKU staff employees elect one Staff Regent to serve on the University's Board of Regents: The staff regent shall be any full-time staff member excluding the president, vice presidents, academic deans and academic department chairs, and shall be elected by secret ballot by the employees who do not hold academic rank. The staff regent shall serve a term of three years and until a successor is elected and qualified. The staff regent shall be eligible for reelection but shall not be eligible to continue to serve as a member of the Board if no longer a member of the staff of the University. Elections to fill vacancies shall be for the unexpired term and shall be held in the same manner as the original election.

The Faculty Senate is the delegate assembly of the University faculty through which the faculty normally exercises its responsibilities as a group. The Faculty Senate makes recommendations to the President on academic policy and procedures including admissions, curriculum, instruction, degree requirements, staffing, and related matters. The “Organization of the Faculty” appears as Part VII of this Handbook. The Senate shall convene initially for an organizational meeting on the first Monday in May at the conclusion of the last meeting of the previous Senate. The Senate shall meet on the first Monday of each month that the University is in regular session from September through December and February through May. The Senate shall meet at other times on the call of the President or the Senate Executive Committee, reasonable notice having been given to the members of the Senate. EKU Faculty Senate: http://facultysenate.eku.edu/ In addition to the Faculty Senate, EKU Faculty also elects one Faculty Regent to serve on EKU's Board of Regents: The faculty regent shall be a teaching or research member of the faculty of the rank of assistant professor or above and shall be elected by secret ballot. All faculty members of the rank of instructor or above, or librarians holding comparable ranks, are eligible to vote. The faculty regent shall serve for a term of three years and until a successor is elected and qualified. The faculty regent shall be eligible for reelection but shall not be eligible to continue to serve as a member of the Board if no longer a member of the teaching staff of the University. Elections to fill vacancies shall be for the unexpired term and shall be held in the same manner as the original election.
