Within EKU's custodial and grounds contract with Aramark, green cleaning is a required practice. In EKU's Green Purchasing Policy, it is recommended that University utilize environmentally responsible biodegradable solvents and cleaners.

EKU Green Purchasing Policy: "To the extent possible, give preference to environmentally superior products, where quality, function and cost are equal or superior... Avoid the purchase and use of all potentially hazardous chemicals including pesticides and wood preservatives for which safety evaluations to current standards have not been carried out and which are known to be persistent in the environment. If no suitable alternative exists, such substances should be used under strictly controlled conditions and subject to a full environmental, health and safety assessment."

EKU Green Purchasing Policy: "To the extent possible, give preference to environmentally superior products, where quality, function and cost are equal or superior. ...Promote the purchase of environmentally responsible and ergonomically designed furniture and furnishings, including floor coverings and window treatments."

EKU's Sustainable Building guidelines require:
• All new construction and major renovation building projects for the amount of $5 million or more in budget shall be designed, built, and submitted for certification to achieve a rating of Silver or higher using the LEED V4 - New Construction Project Scorecard.
• All new construction or major renovation projects for the amount of $600,000 - $5 million shall be designed, built, and submitted for review by a member of EKU’s Capital Construction & Project Administration (CCPA) team involved with the project to achieve the rating of Certified or higher using the LEED V4 - New Construction Project Scorecard.
