A brief description of the institution’s participation in federal TRIO programs:
The Eastern Iowa Community College District has hosted the federally-funded TRiO-Student Support Services (SSS) at the Scott Community College campus since 1984, serving 190 low-income, first generation and individuals with disabilities to increase their retention and graduation. The SSS program plays a vital role in enhancing the accessibility of the college to low-income and first generation college students by providing a broad range of services tailored to provide essential support to the needs of these learners. Identifying their learning styles, strengths, and study skills enable program staff to customize the intervention received by each student. Program advisors establish a close working relationship and rapport so they can provide their students with meaningful career planning, academic advising, as well as any personal counseling and support needed to ensure their success. In recent years, the SSS program has also awarded Grant Aid Scholarships to assist in meeting the student's financial need while minimizing the utilization of student loans.
