Does the institution have strategies in place to safely dispose of all hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste and seek to minimize the presence of these materials on campus?:
Yes

A brief description of steps taken to reduce hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

EICCD has taken steps to ensure that we remain a CESQG - Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator of hazardous waste under RCRA. These steps include performing micro-chemistry or virtual science lab experiments when possible in the classroom, replacing hazardous solvents, paints, and maintenance products with non-hazardous alternatives, and using green cleaning chemicals. EICCD undertook a district-wide re-lamping project to replace all bulbs with green-tipped alternatives and to rid our facilities of pcb-containing ballasts. EICCD teaches many courses related to DOT, EPA, and OSHA hazardous materials/wastes regulations, and has put the course information in place at our own facilities.

A brief description of how the institution safely disposes of hazardous, universal, and non-regulated chemical waste:

As a CESQG, EICCD is pemitted to use the local HHM (Household Hazardous Materials) program at the Waste Commission of Scott County to properly dispose of hazardous wastes generated through our operations. For disposal of larger quantities of lab chemicals, bids from hazardous waste disposal companies are collected and a waste management company is chosen. Fluorescent tubes, batteries, and electronic equipment are disposed of by approved markets as well, as are wastes from our applied technologies courses. Facilities managers and staff at our three campuesses are trained in waste management regulations and procedures. EICCD houses the Iowa Waste Exchange, with a knowledgeablr resource specialist who assists with proper disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes from our operations. An EICCD employee acts as the Environmental Compliance Facilitator, and works to remain current on local, state, and federal enviornmental regulations. Monthly in-house audits for environmental and safety compliance are conducted throughout the district.
