A brief description of the snow and ice removal program, policy, or practice:

Practices for more sustainable removal of snow and ice from EICCD facilities is covered under EICCD's Sustainable Grounds Maintenance Standards. The standard stipulates that sodium chloride be used as sparingly as possible for snow and ice removal. EICCD has taken several measures to reduce the impact of snow and ice removal, including planting trees along roadways to minimize blowing and drifting snow, erection of snow fencing along roadways, use of potash instead of salt for snow and ice removal, taking the effectiveness of snow melt materials into account and applying accordingly, and utilizing small buckets of snow melt materials near doorways so that they can be applied only when needed for safe footing.
