A brief description of the native plant program, policy, or practice:
The EICCD Sustainable Grounds Maintenance Standards stipulate the selection of native plantings for campus landscaping. Standard #7 is to "Reduce the amount and dependence on manicured lawns. Substitute areas of lawn for areas of natural habitat such as prairie grasses, wild flowers, meadows, or natural ground covers, thus reducing the amount of chemicals, water, fuel and energy to maintain." The EICCD Belmont Campus includes an acreage of native prairie used for enviornmental science class and environmental club projects as well as providing wildlife habitat adjacent to the wooded area of the campus.
